Lew Williams Fan Club membership card, 1956.
The very first fan magazine in England was Cat Talk, named after Lew's Imperial record
of the the same title. The editor was Nick Garrard. The magazine was published from 1979 through 1983.
This is the promotional flyer Lew sent to radio station disc jockeys to promote
his Imperial record, Gone Ape Man and Cat Talk in the summer of 1956.
In the fall of 1956, Lew sent this flyer to radio station disc jockeys and major
juke box operators to promote his new record, Bop Bop Ba Doo Bop and Something I Said.
Centipede and Abracadabra were released in the early winter of 1957.
This is the flyer Lew sent to radio station deejays to promote the record.
The flyer was drawn by a student at Midwestern University where Lew went to college.
This flyer promoting Centipede and Abracadabra was drawn by a student at
Midwestern, and was used to push the record to major city juke box operators.
This flyer went to disc jockeys and juke box operators to promote the Hamilton
record, The Girl I Saw on Bandstand and I Saw You Crying in the Show. Lew
recorded this record using the name Vik Wayne. He had no budget, so Lew did
the artwork on this simple piece himself.
Christmas 1956. This is the card Lew mailed to disc jockeys.
This was the "Poor Man's Copyright" for the first song Lew ever wrote back in 1951.
The title of the song was "I Want To Be With You Tonight". Use of the Poor Man's Copyright was very common back then.
It was merely a copy of the lyrics the writer sent by Registered Mail to himself, and not opened
unless necessary to prove he had written the lyrics by the time the letter was date-stamped at
the post office.
The July 1957 issue of Folk & Country Songs had this story about Lew. Until the release of the
Bear Family CD, Cat Talk in late 1999 with its very extensive liner notes, the photo and
everything that had been written about him for all previous liner notes and album covers was
taken from this brief sketch of his career.
